Evolving Perceptions

        I learned this book from @WinnersCursePh in twitter so thank you. I really did enjoy this book. So the novel starts with the general's daughter, Kestrel, who accidentally witness a slave auction and during that auction she was drawn to Arin, which causes her to purchase him for a huge sum of money, thus acknowledging her of having a winner's curse. But little did she knew that it was all orchestrated in order for the Herranis to overthrow the Valorians. The motive behind it is to regain their state back. And as they spend time together they began to form a relationship; from being merely companions to one another to becoming romantically involved. This relationship is considered taboo since a Herrani and Valorian relationship is looked down upon, since the Herranis are considered to be slaves.            What I liked about this novel is politics behind it. It reminded me of the colonizations that took place in the past with the relationship between the Herranis

Plot: The book centers around two girls, Mariam and Laila, in Afghanistan during 20th – 21st Century. It was a time of regime transitions from democracy to authoritarian with the rise of the Taliban then reverted back to democracy with the fall of the Taliban. The novel is the divided into four parts. The first part is about Mariam’s harsh childhood, wherein it was presented that she was an illegitimate child of Jalil. Jalil was a wealthy man and was married to three women who were not fond of Mariam, due to her being Jalil’s illegitimate daughter from his former maid. Mariam’s mother bitterness over Jalil is due to Jalil spending more time with his wives and legitimate children than with her and Mariam. She eventually hangs herself after Mariam went to Jalil’s house for her birthday (wherein in he refuses to see Mariam thus leaving her sleeping in the street) because she was depressed over Mariam leaving her.            I bought all of this books in the span of like 2-3 months. 1 book (pride and prejudice) is a gift from my sister. 2 books (Illuminae and Cinder) I bought at a low price at  olx.ph . Unbreakable by Kami Garcia was only 99 pesos ($2.00) for a hardbound at National Bookstore.          So summer is already here and I started doing my summer cleaning starting with my books.  I decided to catalog my books, after Sasha (abookatopia) do it on here youtube channel, so that I have a list of the book I own and have and I can keep track of things like if I'm missing a book. After   On this section of my desk, I have my Harry Potter books and pop funkos. I'm not yet sure if I would permanently put my Percy Jackson book on my desk or put it in my books

Disclaimer: I was fortunate enough to receive a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an HONEST review.       I always like watching video in youtube about soldier’s coming home from their duty and surprising their love ones but I’ve never really considered those fallen soldiers who never had the chance to come home (I guess I’m optimistic that way). Well this novel shows that side. It enters around Betsy coming in terms with her brother’s death.   It was hard to get into this book in the beginning but after a few pages it got better. I like how the author revisited Betsy’s memories of his brother it helps the reader’s to also feel the sense of loss that Betsy experienced. This book is a great example of Kübler - Ross model. Betsy presented the 5 stages of loss and grief and how an individual deals with it and comes in term with accepting the situation.  In addition, using the retrospective theory we can see why Congressman Hanna is acting the way he is.
